Family Vacation Ideas:  You'll benefit from my research

"Travel has always given me enormous satisfaction. I've visited England (my homeland), western Canada and the United States from east to west. Here at FamilyVacationIdeas4u.com, I will share with you some great destinations and tips to help you plan and get the most out of your next family vacation. "

Through my abilities and experience, I'll share my findings with you. I am an award-winning journalist and avid photographer who loves nature, history, camping and traveling locally and to areas of interest across the country.

Travel Is In My Blood!

In 1990, I took time off from my job as senior newspaper reporter to travel by tent trailer across the United States and Canada. It was Exciting, Inspiring and Wonderful!

During the trip, I gathered information and photographed the fabulous scenery, amazing geological formations, nature, historic sites and special events along the route. Motoring from upper New York State to New Orleans, west through Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, and north along the California coast through Oregon and Washington State was the most fantastic journey of my life.

It took two months, thousands of miles, reels of film and... I wanted more.

When we reached Port Angeles, Washington we crossed the strait to Vancouver Island, and spent a week relaxing in the lush forests and touring the entire island from top to bottom. What a trip that was! The coastline was beautiful and seeing my first bald eagle up close in the wild was a thrill.

We headed east through the Okanagan Valley where we camped in a park that was full of deer and tropical flowers including some of the most exotic orchids I've ever seen in the wild. Of course, I took a lot of photos.

From there, we camped in Banff National Park where it snowed in June! It was worth it just to have toured through the Rockies, with their spectacular views and unexpected waterfalls. Then, it was on to Calgary and back home to Ontario.

That was just one of many trips I've taken, but I must say it was definitely the most extensive. Any one of the places we visited make excellent family vacation ideas.

I've seen a good portion of my home province and made numerous camping and motoring trips to see and photograph the rolling hills, waterfalls, lakes, wildflowers and rock formations on Georgian Bay.

Other trips have included jaunts to West Point in New York State, through the Delaware Water Gap, and along the Susquehana River in Pennsylvania. This is well worth the tour for anyone who enjoys amazing views and numerous photo opportunities. The main highway that follows the River passes through some awesome historic towns, too.

If you're looking for family vacation ideas that are educational, this historic river has lots to offer.

I've visited Niagara too many times to mention. It was our main destination when my parents decided we'd go on an outing. It was the most popular of the many family vacation ideas they came up with.

These trips have inspired me to seek more great destinations and out-of-the-way routes that always produce unique subjects to photograph, like the battle re-enactments, agricultural events, historic buildings, country fairs, classic car shows and, of course, the wonders of nature.

My burning desire to travel, photograph what I see and share the results with others led to me launch The Sundowner. Prior to that, I produced a local tourist guide focusing on events and interesting sites along the St. Lawrence River. It covered history, arts, leisure and entertainment in the area. It produced a good assortment of family vacation ideas.

The Sundowner now has its own site right here, which is dedicated to travel, camping and touring in particular. I'll also share with you tips on how to take great photos on the road and will recommend various products to help make your trip enjoyable. The Sundowner will provide weird, wacky and wonderful destination ideas to spark new family vacation ideas.
